Wood – The Beauty of Nature

solidwoodWood has long been the mainstay of most homes due to the warmth and natural beauty they posses. Treated well, they will last a lifetime as evident in the many antiques you find all over the place. Now may they be family heirlooms or thrifty finds, each and every piece requires treatment to preserve their beauty. Natural varnishes brings out the natural wood structure and protects it at the same time. Polyurethane coatings are a bit harder to use but are tougher and can withstand years of wear and tear.
Old beds and other furniture can easily be given new life with the use of finishing products or if you have gotten tired of the dark shades, get a painter to bleach the wood to make it lighter. Stains also add drama to wood and tends to bring out the natural grains of the fibers making it more pronounced. Carved wooden furniture with many nooks and crannies should be cleaned with a soft brush to get rid of dust. Water marks can be re-finished with the use of the same varnish used when it was finished, making sure to sand away the damaged part before re-applying. Properly cared for, wood get more and more beautiful as time progresses and being all hardy they are sure to complement any home for many more years to come.
